The gap shows up after the claim
Most SMEs don’t fail a claim because they didn’t care. They fail because the hole wasn’t visible in dollars until after.

The worst time to learn your cover is wrong is the morning after.
A supplier misses a shipment. A laptop leaves with customer data. A fire takes a week of revenue with it. Then someone opens the policy and finds the clause that doesn’t apply, the limit that is too small, or the cover that was never bought.
That is the protection gap. Not a slogan. A sequence.
Most SMEs don’t know what they don’t know — until a claim is denied or a loss hits.
Zurich already wrote the brief
Zurich Insurance’s champion problem for MAS Global FinTech Hackcelerator 2026 is blunt: gaps in cyber, supply chain, and asset cover stay quiet while the business grows. Then they compound.
The ask is not “build another marketplace.” It is: give SMEs a clear picture of exposure and the holes in cover, then guide them to the right protection as they scale.
I built OPAL for the moment before the denial.
The numbers that actually hold
Singapore has about 369,500 SMEs (SingStat 2025). Mix that up with “local enterprises” and you get 280,200 — a different count. Use the SME number.
UNDP’s work on ASEAN MSME resilience is harsher: fewer than 5% have any form of insurance.
CSA’s latest Singapore cyber landscape still shows phishing reports up 49% and ransomware up 21%. Professional-services SMEs get hit hard.
None of that is “buy more policies.” It is: you cannot close a hole you cannot see.
Make the hole visible in dollars
OPAL is small on purpose.
- Twelve questions about how the business actually runs
- A 0–100 OPAL Score
- Exactly three coverage gaps, priced in Singapore dollars
- Cyber, supply chain, assets — the brief Zurich wrote
Not a binder. Not a quote. Not an insurer.
You see what’s missing in dollars before the claim tests it.
If you run a Singapore or SEA business — or you advise one — that is the whole product. Waitlist is the public door. The dashboard stays invite-only.
When did you last see your cover as three numbers, not a PDF?
